The surname Terry is not a common name in Ireland. It is most prevalent in counties Waterford and Cork, with clusters of Terrys also to be found in Donegal. For the most part these Terrys were rurally based. In Cork city, however, Terrys became one of the leading merchant families from the early fifteenth to the mid-seventeenth centuries, a period of about 230 years. This website is about this family. At most at any given time it is a story of about 30-40 families, or about 300 people, and at periods much smaller numbers. Yet this grouping held significant sway in the affairs of the city of Cork from 1420 to 1644.Some topics;
